For vessel operators or other land-based staff, we will require you to register your company email address and create your own specific username and password for accessing the website.
The process is easy:
- Log in to the Dolphin site using your standard company-based username and password, then click the "Operations" button.
- You will be asked to "Create New User". Select "Create New User" from the drop down menu, fill in your name, personal company-based email address, and create a password specific for your login. Then click the "Create New User" button.
- You should see a pop up screen appear on the page, with a location to enter your Activation Code. You will receive an email from WRI with details of your registration, which also contains this Activation Code. Simply enter this in and submit to verify your email address.
- That's all! For future logins to Dolphin, your new username is your company-based email address, and your password is the password that you supplied in Step 2.
- You can still access the Dolphin site by using your previous company-based username and password. If you follow this method, you will need to select your name from the "Select User" menu, and enter your specific password from Step 2 (logging in directly with your new username/password is the faster method).
For vessels, enter your standard username and password, then click on "Vessel". You will then see a pop up allowing you to pick your vessel name, and login as your specific vessel.
Please let us know if you have any difficulties registering your username and password
Weather and ocean forecast charts are now accessed from the right-side menu bar. Click on the "cloud" icon , and a menu will open with the various available products. The icon will be highlighted green when you have a parameter selected from a given region.
The general forecast product categories include:

- Visibility
- Temperature

For the map plots, you can select color shading, line contours, or vectors (direction) for the different products. The “vector” products (winds, seas, and currents) will default to showing wind barbs, sea direction arrows, and animated vectors for currents. You can turn on/off animated vectors by clicking the "animated" check box.
Many of the product categories have multiple products available. These can be accessed by clicking the drop-down arrow for that product. You can switch between WRI’s in-house high-resolution data and global model data or select a different sub-product.
There are also three “preset” combinations of products available at the bottom of the menu. You can edit/save your presets for future use.
To close out of this menu, simply click on the “X” on the top-right of the menu, or click anywhere else on the screen.
You can pan the map to any location by "dragging” the map. You can zoom in/out by using the touch screen. The more you zoom in, the higher the data resolution becomes.
To move forward in time, use the time bar feature on the bottom left of the screen. You can use the < > buttons to move forward or backward in 3 hourly intervals, or you can use the “play” button to start an animated loop. You can also click directly on the time bar to go directly to that date/time.
If you click on the "locator" icon on the bottom right of the screen, you will notice a box in the top right corner which displays the latitude/longitude, direction, and magnitude of the product you have selected. A position icon marker will also be placed on the map. You can drag this icon to any location, and the data in the box will update according to your location. To turn off the locator, click on the icon again.
